Key cutting apparatus 34 comprising a key measurement station 36 and a workstation 38 operable to hold a key blank to be cut as a copy of an original key measured by the measurement station 36. A cutting system 40 is provided operable to cut the key blank. The measurement station 36 comprises a light source 44 and a camera 46 to observe an illuminated original key. The apparatus further comprises a test object 64 which, when placed in the measurement station 36, allows the camera 46 to obtain calibration measurements relating to the light source 44. The test object 64 simultaneously provides a plurality of surfaces 66 at different respective positions, which surfaces 66 are at different respective distances from the camera 46, the illumination of each of the surfaces 66 being visible to the camera 46 during use. |
