<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tungsten carbide-based sintered body that has high grain growth inhibition effect to tungsten carbide and is superior not only in mechanical strength but also in chemical durability such as corrosion resistance, and an abrasion resistant member such as the head part of a coater tool, a cutting edge, a cutter blade, a lens type, and a seal ring using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A tungsten carbide-based sintered body includes a first phase whose principal ingredient is tungsten carbide and a second phase whose principal ingredient is a carbonitride of one kind or a plurality kinds of elements selected from the group consisting of a group IV element, a group V element, and a group VI element.
