The method involves assigning a global resource locator (GRL) tag to a resource, where the tag has a description of the physical location of the resource. The description of the physical location is provided with coordinates for the resource and character for indicating a coordinate system. The GRL tag is communicated over a network. The description of the physical location is extracted from the GRL tag. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a system for learning a physical location of a resource in communication with a network (B) a program storage device readable by a computer with a program, applet and instructions executable by the computer to perform method for learning a physical location of a resource in communication with a network.
