PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extremely wide nip system fixing apparatus capable of attaining the higher-speed fixation as compared with a conventional belt nip system fixing apparatus. SOLUTION: In the fixing apparatus, a nip is formed by putting a fixing belt 11 and a pressure belt 12 on top of each other while bringing the outer peripheral surfaces of the belts in contact with each other so that the recording sheet P with an unfixed toner image T formed on its surface may be inserted into the nip, and the nip includes, in order in the rotating directions of the belts 11 and 12, respective areas, that is, an entrance roll nip area where a fixing roll 1 comes in contact with a lead roll 2, a 1st pad nip area where the both belts 11 and 12 are energized toward the fixing roll 1 by the surface of a 1st fixed pad 5, an intermediate roll nip part where the fixing roll 1 comes in contact with a pressure roll 3, a 2nd pad nip area where the both belts 11 and 12 are energized to the pressure roll 3 by the surface of the 2nd fixed pad 6, and an exit roll nip area where an end roll 4 comes in contact with the pressure roll 3.
