PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitor discharge type engine ignition device capable of preventing voltage applied to an ignition capacitor from a circuit boosting induced voltage of an exciter coil from getting excessive. SOLUTION: In the ignition device, a shunt resistor R4 is connected to a transistor Tr1 making the exciter coil 1 short in series, the transistor Tr1 is put under a shut off condition by making a thyristor Th2 conductive when terminal voltage of the resistor reaches trigger level, and induced voltage of the exciter coil is boosted. Other shunt resistors R9 are connected to both ends of the shunt resistor R4 via the transistor Tr4, the transistor Tr4 is made conductive in engine low speed, dummy trigger level of the thyristor Th2 is raised and current shut off value is raised by connecting the both shunt resistors in parallel, to increase voltage boost performance. The shunt resistors R9 are cut off to reduce apparent trigger level of the thyristor in engine middle and high speed to limit induced voltage of the exciter coil. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
