PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavating element which can easily and surely prevent the collapse of a cutting face during the halt of excavation and the like, and which can rapidly adapt to the restart of the excavation. SOLUTION: A holding member 6 for holding a bag 5, brought into contact with the cutting face 1 in a swollen state, from a backside is provided in the leading end of the excavating element 2. More specifically, the holding member 6 is formed in a meshed shape. The holding member 6 is movably mounted at the leading end of the element 2. In other words, the holding member 6 is swingably mounted on a one-side portion in the leading end of the element 2. A fixing member 9 capable of fixing the holding member 6 is provided on the other-side portion in the leading end of the element 2. Additionally, the bag 5 is mounted on the holding member 6.
