PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the visibility of a tissue of concern and a treatment means such as a puncture needle when performing treatments such as ultrasonically guided treatments or ultrasonically guided puncture. SOLUTION: A signal processing circuit 13 originates ultrasonic image data from echo data obtained by transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves to and from a tissue to be observed, and an image processing circuit 14 generates analysis data in which the malignity of each part in the ultrasonic image data is accentuated. A puncture route data originating circuit 16 calculates the position at which the route of puncture should be superimposed on image data and displayed, so as to originate puncture route data showing the direction in which a puncture needle is expected to pierce the tissue. An image obtained by adding the analysis data and the puncture route data to the ultrasonic image data by means of an addition circuit 15 is displayed on a monitor 12. An operator performs treatments while checking on the monitor 12 that the puncture route along which the puncture needle pierces the tissue crosses the accentuated tissue of concern.
