PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for the melt-spinning of a polyester fiber having high melting point while effectively suppressing the deposition of foreign materials on the spinneret, and preventing the periodical yarn breakage in spinning or remarkably increasing the yarn breakage period. SOLUTION: The method melt-spin a polyester fiber by extruding a polyester polymer through a spinneret. The temperature in the spinning tube immediately below the spinneret is maintained to 350-450°C, and heated steam is supplied to the spinning tube through a porous material from a steam-supplying pressure-equalizing chamber arranged on the circumference of the tube. The porous material is preferably metallic nonwoven fabric or a porous ceramic material. The spinneret has polymer extrusion holes arranged on the circumference.
