PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for an elevator entrance capable of avoiding malfunction even when an elevator car is crowded, reducing effects on elevator operation and preventing passengers from being damaged even if their hands are caught in a gap between a car front column and a car door. SOLUTION: The car front column 3 is mounted with a hinge 6 for moving a movable face 5 of the car front column 1 vertical to the elevator car door 3, a spring 7 for pressing the back face of the movable face 5 by the front column 1 and the back face, and a switch 9 for stopping the car door 3 which starts to open and transmitting a closing signal. During opening of the car door 3, when a passenger's hand is caught in the gap between the car front column 1 and the car door 3, the movable face 5 of the car front column 1 is moved to widen the gap between the car front column 1 and the car door 3, and at the same time the car door 3 which started to open starts to close. The switch 9 is operated only during opening operation of the car door 3, and after the switch 9 is operated, the car door 3 is closed by a predetermined distance and then, is reopened.
