METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PREDICTING SUCCESSFUL DSL LINE OPTIMIZATION

A DSL management system predicts achieving improved performance of a DSL line. The system obtains a current state of performance of the line before optimization, and a target state of performance of the line after optimization. The system further obtains a measure of line characteristics of the line, and identifies a subset of records associated with optimizing performance of a subset of DSL lines having a similar measure of line characteristics as the line for which achieving improved performance is being predicted. A probability that performance of the line will be optimized from the current state to the target state is calculated, based on a statistical analysis of the identified subset of records that detects instances when a DSL optimizer previously has optimized the performance of the subset of lines from a same or similar state as the current state to a same or similar state as the target state.
