The wheel bearing assembly comprises the open end section (56) of the axle tube (1), and a flange-type support (47) rigidly fitted in the transition region (55) from the end section to the remaining section of the axle tube and which serves as a support for brake system components. A central support unit (30), designed as a rotatable component and installed concentrically to the axle tube and rotatable relative to it, carries the wheel rim and brake disc. An axle end (20) protrudes into the end section of the axle tube and enclosed by a bearing (121).
