<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant electrically insulating composition which is excellent in mechanical characteristics, has such very high flame retardance as passing UL-VW-1 combustion test, is excellent in productivity, and does not produce an injurious halogen-based gas on combustion, for example, when burnt. <P>SOLUTION: The flame-retardant electrically insulating composition is characterized by comprising 100 pts.wt. of an olefinic polymer, ≥100 and ≤300 pts.wt. of an inorganic hydrate, ≥0.5 and ≤50 pts.wt. of an inorganic lithium compound, and ≥1 and ≤50 pts.wt. of an acrylic rubber. The flame-retardant electrically insulating composition is characterized in that the olefinic polymer is an ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymer. The flame-retardant electrically insulating composition is characterized in that the inorganic lithium compound is lithium carbonate.
