<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform light emission at an appropriate amount of light emission by controlling lighting of a flash discharge tube while suppressing the electric power consumption of a stroboscopic device. <P>SOLUTION: The stroboscopic device is equipped with the flash discharge tube 2, a light emitting element 3 which is lower in electric power consumption as compared with that of the flash discharge tube 2, a photometric means 6 which meters the reflected light reflected from a subject by the light emission of the light emitting element 3, and a controller 9 which controls the quantity of the light emitted by the flash discharge tube 2 based on the intensity of the received light metered by the photometric means 6.
