The present invention provides an image display device having excellent visibility. The image display device, used by being installed on a head part of an observer, includes: an image light generating part generating image light modulated based on an image signal; a light scanning part (light scanner) (36) placed beside the head part of the observer, and primarily scanning the image light in a first direction and secondarily scanning the image light in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction; and a light diffraction part (diffraction optical element) (65) taking the image light L2, scanned by the light scanning part, and diffracting the image light L2 to emit the light to the left eye EYL of the observer. In order to prevent reflected light L9, made as the image light L2 is reflected from the surface of the light diffraction part (65) in a cross point P1 between the amplitude center of the primary scanning and the amplitude center of the secondary scanning, from being emitted to the right eye EYR, a perpendicular N1 in the cross point P1 of the surface of the light diffraction part is inclined to a flat surface F1 (virtual flat surface) including the center of the left eye EYL, the center of the right eye EYR, and the cross point P1. |
