The operating device has an actuator housing (13) containing a movable armature (9) displaced via a pair of magnetic coils (7a,7b) for operation of the engine inlet valve (2). A cooling fluid for the magnetic coils and their associated magnetic cores (8a,8b) is fed through a cooling channel (15) in the actuator housing, preventing direct contact with the cooling fluid.
