METHOD OF MANUFACTURING RESIN FOR THERMAL TRANSFER IMAGE RECEIVING SHEET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing resin for a thermal transfer image receiving sheet that excels in surface glossiness and becomes a thermal transfer image receiving sheet having superior dyeing property and a mold releasability, and to provide a thermal transfer image receiving sheet having a dye receiving layer including the resin obtained by the manufacturing method concerned.

SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing resin for thermal transfer image receiving sheet includes steps (1)-(3). Step (1): a step of obtaining the polyester resin (a1) by condensation polymerization of the carboxylic acid component that contains the itaconic acid by 4-30 mol% and the alcohol component by using the esterification catalyst at the temperature of 150-180°C. Step (2): a step of obtaining aqueous dispersion of polyester resin (a1) by mixing the polyester resin (a1) obtained in the step (1) with the aqueous medium. Step (3): a step of obtaining aqueous dispersion of graft polymer by adding and polymerizing the additive polymerizable monomer (a2) that contains addition polymerizable monomer that has aromatic group by 85 wt.% or more to the aqueous dispersion of the polyester resin (a1) obtained by the step (2).
