PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which allows the simple and easy production of resin particles that are uniform, strongly hydrophilic, and excellent in the dispersibility in a water based medium. SOLUTION: The method for resin particles comprises a process of adding seed particles in a mixed solution of a polymerizable monomer containing a polymerization initiator and an aqueous solution containing a surfactant, to make the polymerizable monomer containing a polymerization initiator absorbed into the seed particles, and a process of heating the mixed solution, to polymerize the polymerizable monomer, wherein when the polymerizable monomer polymerizes to reach a conversion rate of 90-99.9%, there is added a surface modifier having a repeating unit represented by general formula (I) (where R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>may be the same as or different from each other and is hydrogen, a lower alkyl group, or a cyano group; m is an integer of 1-500; and n is an integer of 1-200).
