A touch pad assembly and a mobile terminal having the same are provided to prevent a light spreading phenomenon on the surface of a terminal housing, and clearly illuminate touch keys. A housing includes touch keys(34). A touch pad(36) is attached to a lower surface of the housing. A light emitting element(38) is mounted on a lower surface of the touch pad. A light guide plate(40) is mounted on the lower surface of the touch pad and diffuses light emitted from the light emitting element. A light blocking member(42) is mounted at edges of the light guide plate to prevent light, emitted from the light emitting element, from leaking to other regions than the touch keys. A reflection sheet(50) is mounted on a lower surface of the light guide plate and reflects light emitted from the light emitting element. Insertion holes(48) are formed on the light guide plate, into which the light emitting elements are inserted.
