PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water glass type chemical for stabilizing soil, excellent in yielding durability associated with strengths with the passage of time. SOLUTION: The water glass type chemical for stabilizing soil incorporates, in a water glass containing an aluminum compound in a proportion of≥0.2 mass% and≤1.0 mass% in oxide (Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>) equivalent and having a molar ratio of SiO<SB>2</SB>/Na<SB>2</SB>O of≥2.8 and≤3.4, a hydrogencarbonate as a gelatinizing component in such a proportion as for the molar ratio of the hydrogencarbonate to Na<SB>2</SB>O in the water glass to be≥0.5 and≤0.9.
