PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of performing correct focusing regardless of a position of a subject in a picture plane. SOLUTION: Image signals at a plurality of distance-measuring points in the image plane including the center of the image plane are detected. When the image signal at the distance-measuring point of a peripheral part has contrast (S62) and an image at the distance-measuring point of the peripheral part is continuously monotonically changed (S63), the distance-measuring point of the peripheral part is invalidated to select the distance-measuring point (S73).
