The present disclosure relates to an instant communication method and device, which belong to the field of communications. The method comprises: when sending a new message in a group, a user sending new message prompt information in the group for prompting all group members in the group that there is an unread new message in the group; receiving a reading request which is used for requesting for reading the new message and sent by a terminal of any group member in the group; and selecting the reading request according to a preset rule so as to determine whether to permit the terminal of the group member to display the new message. In the present disclosure, selective group chatting is achieved in a group, the reading access of each group member in the group can be accurately controlled, and group chatting among some group members can be realized without establishing a new group or establishing a new topic, so that message privacy and security are guaranteed, and the operation complexity is greatly reduced. Besides, the interestingness of group chatting is increased, the active degree of group chatting is enhanced and the user experience is great. |
