An interior permanent magnet rotary electric machine (1) comprising: a rotor (2) having a rotor core (11) with two sets of permanent magnets (12, 13) embedded in the interior thereof; a stator (3) that is disposed opposing the rotor (2); and an output shaft (5) comprising a magnetic material that is passed through the center of the rotor core (11). Each of the two sets of permanent magnets (12, 13) comprise three or more homopolar magnets (12a, 12b, 12c, 13a, 13b, 13c) that are adjacently arranged along the circumferential direction of the rotor (2). Magnet fitting holes (11b) for housing the homopolar magnets are formed for each homopolar magnet in the rotor core (11). The thickness (a) of the inter-homopolar portion (18) of the rotor core (11) in the circumferential direction of the rotor (2) is thinner than the thickness (b) of the inter-heteropolar portion (19) of the rotor core (11). |
