An accelerator pedal for controlling a driving engine of a motor vehicle is described, wherein at least one restoring spring (2) is provided, wherein the restoring spring (2) produces a defined force for resetting the accelerator pedal plate (1) into a zero point position, and means (3) are arranged for transmitting haptic signals via the accelerator pedal plate (1) to a driver. According to the invention, means (5) are provided for adjusting the zero point position from an initial zero point position (X0.1) into a special zero point position (X0.0/X0.2). In addition, methods for operating such an accelerator pedal and suitable applications for adjusting the zero point position are presented.
