PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve improved operability and power saving by setting a second detecting distance different from a detecting distance for eye-contact in eye-contact detection. SOLUTION: Light is emitted alternately and the eye-contact is detected by the different light quantities at the detecting distance for the eye-contact and the second detecting distance (at eye-contact: EVF display, when separated slightly: the display of a photographing screen on TFT, when separated further: MENU display).
