PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal compound coating method capable of performing coating at a desired composition of a plurality of metal oxides and capable of performing large-quantity processing and to provide a coated metal compound powder produced by the method. SOLUTION: The metal compound coating method of the present invention comprises the steps of preparing an aqueous organic metal chelate solution from an organic chelate-forming agent and a metal compound; dispersing a powder as nuclei in the aqueous organic metal chelate solution to obtain a slurry; spray-drying the slurry to obtain a powder coated with the organic metal chelate; and firing the coated powder to remove the organic component from the organic metal chelate and to oxidize the metal component.
