The burner has a fuel supply according to a drop principle (130) with a primary air supply (140).The burner has a burner plate unit (10) with two overlapping burner grates (20,30). An upper burner grate has an absorbing area (25) for absorbing the supplied fuel, which is burned and a lower burner grate has an ember area (31) for holding decomposition. The burner grates contain the grate planes through openings in form of the holes or slots. The clearance of through openings of the upper burner grate is larger than the clearance of through openings of the lower burner grate. An independent claim is included for a biomass fuel boiler with a primary combustion chamber.
