The tilt sensor 4 is equipped with a light-emitting element 41 for emitting tilt sense light Ls, and a light receiving element 42, in which tilt sense reflected light Lr, which is the reflected light of the tilt sense light, is received and its light receiving part is divided into two. In an I/V conversion differential amplifier 7, an differential signal for indicating difference in amount of the light of the light receiving parts 42a, 42b of the light receiving element 42 is acquired. A signal level detection/gain switching device 8 detects voltage level of the acquired differential signal. When saturation in the I/V conversion differential amplifier 7 occurs or when lower than appropriate detection level in the I/V conversion differential amplifier 7, the gain of the I/V conversion differential amplifier 7 is switched.
