<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a switching timing of a transfer bias is accurately controlled to timings when a leading end and a trailing end of a recording medium pass a transfer part. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a means for forming a toner image on an image carrier; a transfer means; and a transfer bias control means, and has a rimless image formation mode of causing a front end of the toner image formed on the image carrier to reach the transfer part earlier than that of a recording medium or causing a rear end of the toner image formed on the image carrier to reach the transfer part later than that of a recording medium. A bias condition of the bias applied to the transfer means is switched during a period from the arrival of the leading end of the toner image formed on the image carrier at the transfer part to the arrival of the leading end of the recording medium at the transfer part and during a period from the arrival of the trailing end of the recording medium at the transfer part to the arrival of the trailing end of the toner image formed on the image carrier at the transfer part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
