摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which can display an image rich in gradation by: changing the backlight luminance of a liquid crystal panel to correct APL variations caused by gamma correction processing of a video signal; and reducing underexposure and/or overexposure. SOLUTION: A video correcting device can be connected to a panel module 13 including a liquid crystal panel 13a and a backlight unit 13b illuminating the liquid crystal panel 13a from the rear side. During image display, the video correcting device determines a gamma correction curve for uniformizing the number of gradations throughout an image including the lightest and darkest parts of an input video and generates and outputs a corrected input video obtained by correcting the input video in accordance with the determined gamma correction curve and generates and outputs an adjustment signal for adjusting the amount of irradiation light at the time of irradiating and displaying the corrected input video, in accordance with a difference between an average value of luminance of the input video and that of the corrected input video.
