Provided are: a processor device for an endoscope that can accurately acquire observation distance; a method for operating said device; and a control program. According to the present invention, an endoscope system (10) has an endoscope (12), a light source device (14), and a processor device (16). The endoscope (12) has an image capture sensor (46), captures an image of an object to be observed, and outputs an image signal. The light source device (14) generates an illuminating light for illuminating the object to be observed. The processor device (16) is provided with an image processing unit (64) for measurement. The image processing unit (64) for measurement is provided with a blood vessel index value calculation unit (72) and an observation distance calculation unit (74). The blood vessel index value calculation unit (72) obtains a blood vessel index value on the basis of the image signal from the endoscope (12). The observation distance calculation unit (74) calculates the observation distance from the blood vessel index value obtained by the blood vessel index value calculation unit (72). |
