Provided is a mobile terminal device which has mounted thereon a display device capable of ON/OFF control of illumination, and which achieves both energy saving and user convenience. In a mobile terminal device (100) having a display unit (13) capable of ON/OFF control of illumination, when a power state is in a power save mode in which the light source of the display unit is OFF (S1), contact with the mobile terminal device is detected in order to detect whether the mobile terminal device is being held. Opening and closing of a cover (2) is detected as well. In the power save mode, if it is detected that the mobile terminal device has been held prior to the detection of the opening of the cover, display of a screen on the display unit is carried out while the light source of the display unit remains OFF (S2), and when the opening of the cover is detected thereafter, the light source of the display unit turns ON (S3). |
