MANUFACTURE OF LONG TERM DRUG DELIVERY DEVICE USING POLYURETHANE-BASED POLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drug delivery device for delivering a biologically active compound at a controlled rate for an extended period of time.

SOLUTION: (1) This drug delivery device has a container; where the container is composed of (2) at least one active component; and optionally (3) at least one pharmacologically acceptable carrier; and covered with a polyurethane-based polymer. The polyurethane-based polymer is preferably selected from thermoplastic polyurethane and thermosetting polyurethane, which is further preferably produced from macrodials, diisocyanates, difunctional chain extenders or mixture thereof.
