PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve transmission efficiency by preventing useless data transmission, while transmitting all data necessary for processing. SOLUTION: A transmission apparatus separates elements constituting a structured document into a direct element to be transmitted directly and a referred element to be transmitted according to inter-element relation information and a request from a reception side, and transmits the direct element and the inter-element relation information. When constituting a structured document for processing, the reception side makes a transmission request for a referred element and reconstitutes the structured document based on information received from the transmission apparatus.
