METAL POWDER FOR POWDER-BASED PRODUCTION PROCESSES AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF A METALLIC COMPONENT FROM METAL POWDER

The invention relates to metal powder for powder-based production processes wherein a component is structured in layers or as a compact green body from metal powder and is strengthened by welding or sintering. In order that such a metal powder is easily weldable and can be cost-effectively produced, and is thus in particular suitable for fast, economically efficient production of functional components in large quantities in an additive production process (rapid manufacturing), the metal powder according to the invention has a particle size distribution in the range of 5 - 150 μm and contains primarily iron and unavoidable impurities, wherein the iron proportion thereof is in the range from 89.6 to 99.9 wgt.-%. The invention further relates to the use of such a metal powder (steel powder) for powder-based production processes and a method for producing a metallic component through layered structuring and welding or sintering using such a metal powder.
