<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system for quickly and easily performing maintenance of each function and reducing costs required for addition by providing each apparatus with each function. <P>SOLUTION: The communication system comprises: connection means 301 and 401 communicable with a host device; path selection means 201 and 211 connected to the connection means 301 and 401, for selecting a path of a packet during communication; communication means 303, 313 and 403 connected to the path selection means 201 and 211 and a terminal, and communicable with the terminal; control means 302 and 402 for controlling the communication means 303, 313 and 403; controlling and monitoring means 305 and 405 for controlling the operations of the respective means; and a synchronizing means 101 for synchronizing the respective means.
