PURPOSE: A method for controlling a repeater of a mobile communication system is provided to make a base station controller(BSC) located between a base station and a mobile station sense an operating state of the repeater for connecting calls and generate a control signal according to the sensed operating state, so as to manage and maintain operations of the repeater. CONSTITUTION: A base station controller(BSC) decides whether a device whose operating state is presently sensed is one of devices configuring a repeater. If so, the BSC updates an operating state of a pre-stored device as the presently-sensed operating state, and stores an updated result in a memory. The BSC checks an operating state of a receiving path 'A' device, and checks an operating state of a receiving path 'B' device. The BSC decides whether the operating states of the 'A' device and the 'B' device are normal or whether one of the operating states is normal. If both of the operating states are abnormal, the BSC checks whether an operating state of a transmission amplifier of the repeater is normal. If so, the BSC checks whether the transmission amplifier is unblocked. If so, the BSC blocks the transmission amplifier to limit outputs of the repeater. If both of the operating states of the devices are not abnormal, and if one of the operating states is normal, the BSC checks whether the operating state of the transmission amplifier is normal. If so, the BSC checks whether the amplifier is blocked. If so, the BSC normalizes the outputs of the repeater.
