PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorption apparatus of ammonia and/or ammonium ion capable of efficiently removing ammonia and/or ammonium ions from waste water or waste gas and exhibiting the excellent practical and economical efficiency. SOLUTION: The absorption apparatus of ammonia and/or ammonium ion is constituted so that an expansion part 1b which has a moderate flow rate, does not include an ammonia absorbent and discharges only treated water is formed on the upper part of an upper countercurrent reaction tower 1 into which the ammonia absorbent is charged, a shrinkage part 1c which collects the ammonia absorbent allowed to grow into a large grain size by absorbing ammonia and/or ammonium ions therein is formed on the lower part of the reaction tower 1 and a discharge pipe 2 for extracting the ammonia absorbent is disposed on the shrinkage part 1c.
