<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device which can refract light into the direction to a viewer to improve the display grade, and to provide its manufacturing method and a substrate for the device. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal device 1 has a substrate 5 holding liquid crystals 7, transparent regions 8 passing the light and reflecting regions 9 reflecting the light with pixels (sub pixels) 10 on the substrate 5, and prisms (structures) 12 which have 1st rectangular surfaces 12a and 2nd rectangular surfaces 12b that are in contact with each other on one side with the 1st rectangle surfaces 12a inclining with respect to the surface of the substrate 5 in the region overlapping in a plane on the transparent areas 8. Accordingly, it can refract the light passing the transparent areas 8 into the direction of the viewer S with the prisms 12 and reflect the light at the reflecting regions 9.
