The device has a steering wheel connected with a pinion of a steering gear via a torsion bar , where a steering force assistance takes place in dependence of the angle of twist at the bar. The bar exhibits a small torsional stiffness to a given angle of twist than in a range above the given twist angle. The bar comprises two sections (20`, 20``) made of spring steel with different spring stiffnesses.
