PURPOSE: A reliable mail distribution system and a gateway are provided to enable a user to use an electronic document distribution system based on the new authentication electronic addresses without changing the existing environment. CONSTITUTION: A transmission side gateway(100) converts an address of an e-mail which is transmitted by a transmission side e-mail client(20) into a reliable mail address by e-mail-reliable mail mapping information which is stored in a mapping information database(500). The transmission side gateway converts the e-mail into a distribution message. A transmission side messaging system(300) transmits the distribution message to a reception side messaging system(400). A reception side gateway(200) converts the address of the e-mail, which is requested from a reception side e-mail client(30), into the reliable mail address by the stored e-mail-reliable mail mapping information. The reception side gateway converts the distribution message, which is received from the reception side messaging system, into the e-mail.
