METAL-CONTAINING CARBIDE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal-containing carbide that is inexpensive and exhibits catalytic activity similar to that of a platinum-containing catalyst when used as an electrode catalyst of a solid polymer fuel cell, and to provide a new method for manufacturing the metal-containing carbide.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a metal-containing carbide is characterized in that: an organic compound containing a metal is carbonized in two stages; the carbonization temperature in the first stage is controlled to 150 to 500°C; and the carbonization temperature in the second stage is controlled to 600 to 1,200°C.
