IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing a highly precse detection without extending reading time in a line sensor used for detecting the position of transfer paper or an image.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with; an image forming means; a conveying means; an array-shaped position detecting members in which a plurality of detecting elements arranged installed along a main scanning direction in a transfer paper conveying path; and a control means which controls the conveying timing of the transfer paper in the conveying means or image formation in the image forming means from a position of an end part of the transfer paper or a position of image formation in a reference image on the transfer paper detected by either one of the detecting elements in the array-shaped position detecting members. Virtual characteristic lines connecting the detected values by a plurality of the detecting elements with the end part position or the image forming position in between are generated and this position is calculated at a resolution which is smaller than a pitch of the detecting elements by using the virtual characteristic lines.
