A prismatic lithium ion battery is provided to inhibit the thickness expansion of a battery even in case of the expansion of a battery due to charge or the generation of internal gas and to suppress swelling. A prismatic lithium ion battery comprises an electrode assembly; a prismatic can(10) which accommodates the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly which is provided with a cap plate finishing the aperture of the prismatic can, wherein two curved parts(12,13) are formed at the two large area side surfaces of the prismatic can which face each other, in the longitudinal direction of a can so as to be adjacent to the two long sides of the large area side surface. The two curved parts are approached at the center part in the longitudinal direction of a can compared with the both end parts. |
