<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal light control element capable of making a transparency when a voltage is applied compatible with a shielding property when no voltage is applied in a high level. <P>SOLUTION: A monomer group containing a monomer (A) of alkylester (meth)acrylate (in which an alkyl group is a 1-20C chain group or a 5-20C cyclic group), and a monomer (B) having a carbon-carbon double bond and a nonionic hydrophilic group such as a polyoxyalkylene group, an amide group and a hydroxyl group, with the monomer (A) as a main monomer, is subjected to emulsion polymerization to obtain an emulsion containing a copolymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of from -50°C to 20°C. A liquid crystal is dispersed in the obtained emulsion and applied on a substrate with a conductive film, which is assembled with another substrate with a conductive film to obtain a liquid crystal light control element. A monomer (C) having a carboxyl group and/or amino group, and a carbon-carbon double bond may be used with a crosslinking agent to introduce a crosslinked structure into the copolymer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
