An adapter for an ink cartridge which is configured to be mounted to a cartridge mounting portion of a recording apparatus, includes a main body and a particular portion positioned at the main body. The particular portion has information about the ink cartridge which is to be used with the adapter in the cartridge mounting portion, and the particular portion is configured to block light emitted from a particular optical sensor of the cartridge mounting portion when the adapter is inserted into the cartridge mounting portion. The adapter and the ink cartridge are separate members.
