PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an internal combustion engine capable of determining proper thermal treatment before a cylinder head and a cylinder block are assembled so that a seal material provided at a three-plane mating part of the internal combustion engine can properly maintain sealing performance by a simple configuration.SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing an internal combustion engine, an elastically deformable seal material 5 is provided at a three-plane mating part 4 of a thermal-treated cylinder head 1 and a cylinder block 2, and a chain case 3 so as to be assembled. The thermal treatment of the cylinder head 1 and the cylinder head 2 is determined based on a tolerable amount gk (or gs) of the elastic deformation of the seal material 5, and further respective permanent growth amounts p, q of the cylinder head 1 and the cylinder block 2 by the operation of the internal combustion engine, and respective thermal expansion amounts r, s of the cylinder head 1 and the cylinder head 2 during the operation of the internal combustion engine. Then, the thermal treatment is performed. |
