A data transmission method for improving the flexibility of service scheduling, comprising: a base station sending configuration information to a terminal, the configuration information comprising information about the number of symbols, and the information about the number of symbols being used for indicating the number of symbols used when the base station performs data interaction with the terminal; and the base station sending to the terminal or receiving data transmitted by taking a symbol as a unit, the data occupying m symbols on a time domain, and m being the number of used symbols indicated by the configuration information. In this way, before a base station performs data interaction with a terminal, the base station sends information about the number of symbols to the terminal, so that the terminal not only can learn the number of symbols used when the base station sends data to the terminal, but also can determine the number of symbols needed when the terminal sends data to the base station, so as to perform data interaction. Therefore, the case in the prior art where a symmetrical number of sub-frames or symbols must be used to perform uplink and downlink data transmission is avoided, and the flexibility of service scheduling is improved.
