<p>A free active oxygen radical scavenger to be used for efficiently removing free active oxygen radicals generated in vivo. Although the group 3 of rats fed with both of a diet enriched with free active oxygen radical species and β-carotene and the group 4 of rats fed with both of the enriched diet and a green tea leaf extract have enjoyed a reduction in the free active oxygen radical content (TBA reaction value) to some extent as compared with the group 1 of rats fed with only the enriched diet, a significant increase in the radical content (TBA reaction value) is observed after 8 weeks. The group 2 of rats fed with a basal diet do not undergo any significant change in this respect. On the contrary, the group 5 of rats fed with all of the enriched diet, β-carotene and the green tea leaf extract have enjoyed a reduction in the radical content (TBA reaction value). Thus the simultaneous administration of β-carotene and the green tea leaf extract enables free active oxygen radicals to be scavenged efficiently.</p> |
