Security elements with negative colored indicia

In security element, having opaque layer(s) with partly or completely colored, (un)connected gaps on a transparent or translucent substrate, the substrate comprises a colored, flexible plastics film and those areas with the opaque coating are partly or completely decolorized with a bleach. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) film material comprising the above opaque layer(s) with gaps and substrate film, optionally (partly) bleached in areas with opaque coating; (2) production of the security element comprising partial application of the bleach; application of the opaque (non)metallic coating and then the printing ink containing dye in a suitable solvent, followed by metallization and partial demetallization. The bleach and printing ink are applied by spin coating, spreading, vapor deposition, printing (gravure, flexographic, screen, offset or digital printing), spraying, sputtering or roll application.
