PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a revolutionary grinding device for grinding a workpiece including a metallic material and a wooden material, for instance. SOLUTION: The grinding device is formed of a rotary grinder 1 and a moving device section M. The rotary grinder 1 is set up in the following manner. First a pair of abrasive cloths 4 each having an abrasive surface 5 on one side and a non-abrasive surface 5a on the other side are superposed on each other so as to face the abrasive surfaces 5 to each other, to thereby form a grinder 7. Then a number of the grinders 7 thus formed are arranged on a rotating shaft a radially and axially at predetermined intervals, and a surface of each grinder 7 is faced to an axial direction of the rotary shaft a. Then the rotary shaft a is rotated so that a number of the grinder 7 arranged on the rotary shaft a are rotated to, thereby achieve the grinding of the workpiece 6 including the metallic material or the wooden material. Next the moving device section M functions to move the rotary grinder 1 in a direction that generates an axial speed component of the rotary shaft a, to thereby abut the rotary grinding body 1 on the workpiece 6.
